Short term hammers
Still gutted to this day on how we were robbed of seeing him play for West Ham longer.

Loved his game, scored some cracking goals for us during his time here. Would have become a West Ham legend if he didn’t get injured I’m sure of it……..

What players do you wish stayed longer than they did?

.....in yet we paid a lot more for that nutter Repka, about 3 times more.

Re: Short term hammers
We had already bought Song and Dailly and Ragnvald Soma before Hannu came in on loan the following summer. I'm sure Harry knew that Hannu was better than all 3 of them put together but we apparently only offered Viking less than the price agreed with them before we loaned him so they told us to fuck off.

Re: Short term hammers
SDKFZ 222 One of the worst mistakes we ever done was not sit in the Tin Man. I mean his fellow countryman Sami Hyppia said that Hannu was the best central defensive partner he played along Side in all of his career.

Plus Hannu had a goal scoring record for a CB - exceeding the reqiured 10 games to 1 goal for a centre back.

P.S. Is your WHO user name based on a German WW2 armoured car?

Thanks, I wasn’t 100% sure, but Hannu was class and worth both Song and Dailly put together. What was ‘Arry possibly thinking? 🤦🏼‍♂️

I remember when he kicked the ball off of the line against Tottenham, after our keeper had been lobbed, which saved a certain goal. That would have been worth the signing on its own.

Re: Short term hammers
SDKFZ 222 l believe Dailly cost £1.75 million and Song cost £1.5 million. Tihinen went over to Anderlect for €1.5.

Another waste of money was Soma he cost us for about a £1 million.

Yep we know how to burn money!

Hannu Tihinien was a class act. One of "Arry's" shrewd deals. Don't understand why we didn't sign him permantly

Re: Short term hammers
With a few exceptions pretty much every player who ever had a decent season or two with us.

Liam Brady was class, as was Futre. Was a session-and-a-half with Payet worth it’s? Some of those goals say yes.

Couldn't afford him Gary??

He went for £1.5 Milion in yet we brought that nutter Repka for £5.5 million and who in my mind got us relegated giving away stupid penalties and getting sent off thus weakening our side during play.

Re: Short term hammers
Paulo Alves was another Portuguese striker rated really highly, he scored against England at Wembley.

Only came on as sub 4 times for us on loan, and didn't do much.

At the time he was considered one of the best Portuguese strikers about.

Mental how we had someone of that standard and most people probably barely remember him

I think his asking price was £3million. But ‘Arry decided to buy two for the price of one instead in Song and Dailly I’d have preferred Tihinen who looked the dogs nuts compared to those two.

Hannu Tihinen
A class act when on loan including the victory against Man utd in the cup 2001.
I don't think we could afford to sign him permanent at the time.

Payet... what a missed opportunity. If only we could have kept him happy.

Best player I've ever seen live... on a par (or just slightly better than) Sir Trev.
